JAC Woodwork — Table Sizing Guide

Tip 1: Seating Capacity

Choosing the right table size starts with knowing how many loved ones you want to seat. While chair widths vary, these guides work well for most homes.

Rectangular Tables

  • 6’–7’ table — seats 6 loved ones

  • 8’–9’ table — seats 8 loved ones

  • 10’ table — seats 10 loved ones

Need a larger custom size? JAC Woodwork can build it.

Round Tables

  • 48” round — seats 4 loved ones

  • 54” round — seats 5–6 loved ones

  • 60” round — seats 6–7 loved ones

Square Tables

  • 48” square — seats 4 loved ones

  • 54” square — seats 4–8 loved ones

  • 60” square — seats 8 loved ones

  • 66” square — seats 8–10 loved ones

Tip 2: Painter’s Tape or Bed Sheet Trick

Visualize your future table right in your home:

  1. Use painter’s tape to outline the shape of the table on your floor — or

  2. Use a bed sheet folded to the table size you’re considering.

Then measure the outline. If your space fits a 6.75’ table perfectly, that’s exactly what we’ll build for you. Custom is what we do.

Tip 3: Spacing Rules

If you know the room dimensions but can’t access the space:

  • Leave at least 3 feet of clearance around all four sides of the table.
This gives room to push chairs back, stand up, and walk behind seated guests.

Need more seating in a tight space?
Consider adding a bench on one or both sides. Benches seat more people when needed and tuck neatly under the table when not in use.
